A Mountain of Anime Updates Dropped Over the Festive Season
The winter break provide a wealth of pursuits far superior than checking the headlines: opening presents, indulging in festive fare, and using deep breathing to avoid snapping at family members. It is wished you managed to enjoy all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling news items came out during the festive period, and if you didn't see some of them, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (By 2027)
Perhaps the most surprising announcement, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop more episodes. The show will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which might be a positive development. Yet, the main art for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, at this point, they must be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' support and goodwill, and now the community is thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was a further stellar entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as in production, and it will very likely debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
A further studio famous for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Shortly after the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has yet to be revealed.
