News has broken that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.

An Important Reunion for Fans

The duo are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Industry whispers indicate their appearance will take the form of a brief glimpse ahead, considering the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.

This marks the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.

The Source Material

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who was behind the majority of the previous films in the series.

The Plot and New Cast

The film's narrative are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.

• Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.
